Tips of the Day: Internet Sites and Awesome Apps
by Working Mama on March 9, 2010
I love helpful Internet sites, so I’m sharing some with you. I found them in Real Simple which I now love. I used to think it was for old people..because it talks about laundry detergent and shows you how to find new uses for old things, like using a comb to create a swirly decoration on a cake, um yeah, pretty weird.. and gross. But now that I am old, I LOVE it.
1. www.stilltasty.com WOW! This site is amazing. You’re dying for a chocolate fix and all you can find is left over chocolate from Halloween- check here to see if you can eat it without actually dying. You have no idea how helpful this site is for our family- we like to store food in our fridge like we are getting ready for Armageddon. It seriously looks like your grandma’s. Come on over for some leftovers…from 3 weeks ago.
2. www.web2pdfconvert.com Ok, this is kinda nerdy- but it supposedly converts any web page to a pdf. Doesn’t sound like something you need? Think recipes and online banking statements.
3. Cardstar. You enter your frequent buyer card numbers for say, Kroger or CVS, or whatever and then it creates a bar code ON YOUR PHONE for them to scan.. isn’t that amazing? Now you don’t have to have 15 of those tacky little cards hanging from your key chain. Fabulousness.
If you have some awesome websites or apps to share, please do!

I lurve the Medicine Cabinet page on askdrsears.com. Excellent break down of what meds to give when and how much.
I also love http://www.babycheapskate.com. She blogs about all the deals out there on gear, diapers, formula, clothes, etc.
Apps: Epicurious- quick, easy recipe index, great for when I’m in the grocery store and decide I want to make something that I don’t have the recipe for memorized. Plug in the name or even just a couple of ingredients and I get several options to scroll through.
I check the Weather Channel app about 47 times a day.
Oh and Shazam… COOLEST. APP. EVER. You hold it up to the radio when it’s playing that song you love but never can remember the name of and you know DJ’s don’t announce the song titles and artists any more, that is soooo early 90′s- and the genius thing figures out what song it is! Then prompts you to purchase it on iTunes. Amazing. My phone is way smarter than me.
